The Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty Development team, enters the second match of the Basil McBurney Trophy competition, with a first-up season victory against Counties Manukau on their ledger card.
A changed ND Development schedule this season, will see the Bay of Plenty Second XI play three round robin encounters, before squaring of in the Finals series on the 28th February 2020.
This Sunday (29 November 2020) the Bay of Plenty representatives will hit the road to play long-time rivals Hamilton in the Garden City.
There are two changes from the side that defeated Counties Manukau two weeks ago, with Tauranga Boys College Liam Collett making his Bay of Plenty Development debut. Collett has been in good form with the bat in Baywide Premier competition and took seven wickets in the recently completed ND Gillette Cup Finals series. Habib Malik comes back into the side after sterling form in Baywide cricket
Lake Taupo opening batsman Michael Mitchell, will be playing his second game in the Bay Second XI uniform, after top scoring with an unbeaten 94 against Counties Manukau.
The Bay of Plenty side has been the team to beat in the last two seasons, under Coach Russell Williams, winning eight of their ten Basil McBurney games with just a solitary loss in each season. Two years ago the Bay side bounced back from a first up loss, to win four straight wins and take out the ND Development silverware – while last season, a loss to weekends rivals Hamilton, resulted in a second place finish behind the Waikato City side.
Coach Williams said “We are really looking forward to playing Hamilton this Sunday, It’s always a great game and a good test for our lads. We were really good in patches against Counties two weeks ago, so the boys will be looking to execute a better performance this weekend and it will need to be. as Hamilton is always a quality team”.
A feature of last season Bay of Plenty Development team, was the batting firepower on display against Counties Manukau and Waikato Valley. Niven Dovey (145) and Daniel Price (137) posted a huge partnership, with both batsmen blasting big tons as the Bay posted 373 for the loss of eight wickets.
Some weeks prior to the big Waikato Valley win, Daniel Price (116) showcased his impressive batting credentials, when he combined with Jacob Logan (115) with the pair belting a century apiece against Counties Manukau. For good measure Taylor Bettelheim hit a neat century in a non-championship fixture against Hawkes Bay.
