Brett Hampton earns selection in New Zealand XI to play England in T20 action next Sunday – The hard hitting ND and Bay of Plenty batsman, has been selected in the New Zealand eleven to square off with the England tourists on Sunday 27 October 2019, before they arrive in the Bay of Plenty to play the Black caps in the historic first test at the Bay Oval.
Hampton, has played for the Northern Knights on 72 occasions, over the three forms of the game, blasting 1263 runs and taking 42 wickets.
Promotion to Northern Districts, came on the back of some outstanding performances for the Bay of Plenty senior representative team. Player number 499 made his Bay debut at the ND One-Day tournament during November 2009.
Just last week, the power hitter warmed up for the coming season when he hammered a century for Greerton, in the Bay of Plenty Cup. Coming in at four against multiple Baywide champions Otumoetai Cadets, Hampton took aim on the boundary ropes to blast 119 off just 48 balls, in a whirlwind innings that produced sixteen 6's.
Brett has fitted in 67 Bay of Plenty appearances, in between his ND commitments, with spectacular success. His highest score of 194, came when Bay of Plenty relieved Hamilton of the Hawke Cup in 2013. 108 wickets with a best of seven wickets for 60 runs, testifies to an all-rounder of the highest quality.
Hawke Cup cricket seems to bring out the best in Hamptons fighting qualities, with 619 runs from eight Hawke Cup Direct Challenge appearances and the icing on the cake of 21 wickets.
Brett is one of only three Bay of Plenty all-rounders to have 2000 runs and 100 wickets to his name. Bay of Plenty centurion Derek Beard leads the way with 2843 runs and 204 bowling scalps, from Jono Boult with 2240 runs and 157 wickets, with Brett currently on 2122 runs along with his 108 wicket tally.
