Bay of Plenty Cricket Announce Restructure

Posted: Friday, 11 June 2021

BOP Cricket moved towards shared services model with NDCA

The Bay of Plenty Cricket Association (BOPCA) has been working with Northern Districts Cricket Association (NDCA) and the other District Associations in our region to improve the way that cricket is delivered.

This work is part of the national Strengthen and Adapt Plan that New Zealand Cricket is rolling out across the country. The aim of these changes is to reinvigorate community cricket inclusive of our player pathway to give more people (especially children) more opportunities to fall in love with our great game. As part of these changes, Northern Districts Cricket Association and Bay of Plenty Cricket Association have implemented a shared services arrangement. The administration functions of BOPCA have been undertaken by NDCA under this model for the past year and this has worked very well. The next step involves competition management and operational delivery, where the current tasks undertaken by BOPCA will now be performed by NDCA. This logical consolidation will enable resources to be utilised in a more efficient and aligned manner resulting in improved outcomes for our cricket community.

So what is changing:

• Premier Cricket Competition Management will be operated by Northern Districts Cricket.

• Management of cricket development and pathway activities across the Bay of Plenty will be undertaken by staff employed by NDCA

And what is staying the same:

• BOPCA has a long and proud history in representative cricket. Players of all ages will still be able to aspire to represent their district associations. Representative programs and representative boundaries won’t be changing.

• BOPCA will continue to be responsible for the oversight of cricket in our district. The BOPCA Board will oversee and direct the competitions and representative programs.

• BOPCA will still retain control of tasks like the financials and judiciary for competitions.

• NDCA will continue to provide administration and accounting functions

Staff changes implemented 28th May 2021 As part of these changes, the current BOPCA Development Manager, Pathway Manager and Women’s Cricket Officer roles will discontinue from the 26th June. NDCA will recruit staff to perform development, pathway and competition tasks and provide regular updates to the BOPCA Board in regard to agreed KPIs.

Further information Further information will also be available on BOPCA and NDCA’s website and facebook pages. In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact:
