CADETS CRUISE TO SIX WICKET WIN IN VERSATILE TAURANGA WILLIAMS CUP ACTION

The expected Versatile Tauranga Williams Cup close contest between Element IMF Cadets and Generation Homes Lake Taupo, on Saturday (20 February 2021), turned out to be one-way traffic.

The Taupo visitors batted first at the Tauranga Domain and were bundled out in the 39th over, for 91. Will Perry, gave his sides turn at bat some respectability with an unbeaten 28, batting down the order. Former Bay of Plenty representative all-rounder, Donavan Deeble, ripped through the Taupo sides batting attack taking five wickets for 22 runs.

Taupo bowler AJ How took three wickets, before Cadets got home to grab the win points on offer. With several Cadets players missing to Bay of Plenty representative cricket, club legend Jono Boult answered the call to duty, smashing a six to win the game in an innings that saw him smack an unbeaten 45 runs.

Bond & Co Mount Maunganui simply batted Papamoa out of their encounter, as they posted 291 for the loss of just three wickets. Mount skipper Matt Golding led from the front, blasting a neat century. Ben Musgrave finished with 72 runs in the book, while Mount Maunganui College youngster Connor Wells showcased his potential with 66 runs.

Ben Goodall's 43 not out, shone out like a beacon in the Papamoa reply, that was cut short with just 122 runs on the board. Long-serving Mount bowler Nick Smith bowled great line and length to finish with three wickets for 19 runs.

Bayleys Central Indians, continued their unbeaten Williams Cup start with a four wicket win over Holland Beckett Law Tauranga Boys College. Tauranga Boys were removed for 189 with Charles Williams (46) and Liam Collett (36) both making solid contributions. Andrew Gibbs and Lovely Sandhu both took three wickets apiece.

Central Indians were in good shape at 123 for the loss of three wickets. Tauranga Boys bowlers came back to take a further three wickets, with the combined side getting home with the fourth ball of the 47th over. Nadeera Nawela top scored with a hard fought 43 runs.

Eves Realty Greerton joined Central Indians on the top of the standings, after restricting Flying Mullet Te Puke to 146/9. Josh Earle and Gareth Wallace both reached the thirties with Dan Spencer and Tim Burke each taking three wickets. Greerton lost five wickets with Captain Lee Watkins top scoring with 45 not out.
