Owen Delaney Park Taupo 12th Jan

Craigs Investment Partners Bay of Plenty Development team, will prepare for the second half of their ND 2019/20 representative campaign, with an inter-provincial encounter against Hawkes Bay at Owen Delaney Park in Taupo on Sunday (12 January 2020), as they chase back to back ND Development titles.

Bay of Plenty Cricket Pathways Manager Tai Bridgman-Raison said “Hawkes Bay are a quality opposition which is ideal for us from a player development perspective. The more of these types of fixtures we can exposure our emerging players to, the easier they will make the transition into our Senior Men’s representative side and beyond”.

“Ben Sheriff and his team do a superb job managing the facilities at Owen Delany and I am expecting a high-scoring encounter”.

The defending Basil McBurney Trophy titleholders, got away to the start that they wanted in the first half of the current ND Development competition, winning both their first two competition match-ups.

First-up they defeated long-time rivals Northland, when they set their opponents a target of 190, before bowling Northland out for 155 to claim a satisfying 34 run win. Individual Bay of Plenty honours were claimed by New Zealand Under 19 all-rounder, Fergus Lellman, who top scored with 47 runs and took three wickets at a cost of 22 runs for good measure.

There were plenty of smiles of satisfaction, after the Bay side reversed last season’s sole defeat, with a ten wicket victory against Poverty Bay. Bay of Plenty skipper Dominic Crombie, led the way with the ball grabbing three wickets as Poverty Bay were bowled out for just 111. Fergus Lellman (55no) and Taylor Bettleheim (49no) were clinical in dispatching the opposition bowlers, as Bay of Plenty cruised to victory without losing a wicket.

Bay of Plenty Development captain Dominic Crombie, has put together anoutstanding record since take change of the Development troops, at the start of last season’s ND Development campaign. Just a solitary loss from eight encounters, is Crombie’s record in charge of the Bay of Plenty second eleven.

One player who will need no introduction to Owen Delany Park, is Habib Malik, who will be making his Bay of Plenty Development debut. The Lake Taupo CC skipper, has performed with both bat and ball in the Bay of Plenty Cup premier competition, to earn a Development call-up in the inter-provincial match with Hawkes Bay .
