A Blazing Century Sets Bay of Plenty Cup Alight

Steven Nicholls of Bayleys Central Indians Blasts an Unbeaten 126

Bayleys Central Indians skipper Stephen Nicholls set the Bay of Plenty Cup alight, on the opening day of the 2012/2020 cricket season, blasting an unbeaten 126 in his sides total of 241 for the loss of seven wickets, against Carrus Mount Maunganui on Saturday (5 October 2019).

The Rotorua combined sides captain led the way as he carried his bat to the first century of the new Baywide premier season. Nicholls innings contained ten 4's and four big heaves over the boundary ropes. Chris Atkinson was the best of the Mount bowlers taking three wickets for 37 runs. 

Three wickets apiece by Parv Mehta and Prabh Gill put the home side on the back foot, being bowled out for 154 in the 41st over, to hand Central Indians a confidence boosting 87 run win. Ben Musgrave was the best of the Mount Maunganui batsmen top scoring with 54 runs.

New World Te Puke chased down Element IMF Cadets solid target of 215, with ease, losing just two wickets on their charge to victory. Cadets batted first and were bowled out for 214 in the 46th over. Andrew Mascall and skipper Jono Boult both hit half centuries, with Christian MacDonald taking three wickets for Te Puke.

Tai Bridgman-Raison, who owns the Te Puke premier most centuries, went on the attack to take his team home to the win points on offer with 86 not out. Daniel Price, put on a 99 run partnership with Bridgman-Raison before being dismissed for 52, with Te Puke keeper Blair McKenzie there at the crease when victory came with an unbeaten 44 runs. 

Geyser City made a respectable debut in the Bay of Plenty Cup, against current title holders Eves Realty Greerton at Smallbone Park in Rotorua. In a rain shortened 36 over contest, the Rotorua debutants batted first and reached 104 for the loss of nine wickets, with Sam Kershaw top scoring with 39 runs.

Greerton were made to fight hard for victory losing six wickets on the way. Nick Hendrie worked hard at one end while wickets tumbled at the other, to take his team home to victory with 78 not out. Satpal Singh did the majority of damage with the ball, grabbing four wickets, in a bowling spell that included three ducks.

Generation Homes Lake Taupo won a good battle with Bond & Co Tauranga Boys College. Tauranga Boys batted first to reach 216/9 with Niven Dovey posting a half century. Lake Taupo got home with five wickets to spare with Roger Urbahn taking four wickets then belting a six to finish the match in his 58 not out.
