Sunday's Result

Bay of Plenty Development posted their third successive victory in four weeks, when they defeated Northland at the neutral venue at War Memorial Park in Manurewa, on Sunday (10 February 2019).

The team from the Far North won the toss and asked Bay of Plenty to bat first, with the Bay side getting away to a flyer, before Fergus Lellman was dismissed for 24 at the 60 run mark. Fellow opener Jacob Logan continued his side’s momentum, reaching 45 before being dismissed.

Batting at five, Tim Pringle stroked the ball around War Memorial Park to go on finish with his sides top score, of 48 off 76 balls. Dominic Crombie posted a solid 37 with Niven Dovey posting 26 runs at a run a ball. Bay of Plenty were bowled out for 242, with three balls remaining in their turn at bat.

Testament to the Bay Development batting firepower, was that their innings against Northland was the third time that that they has blasted 240 plus runs this season, with their narrow losing chase against Poverty Bay finishing on 236.

Success with the ball has also been a big part of Bay of Plenty Development 2018/19 campaign, with the Bay second eleven bowlers removing Northland for 229, to claim a 13 run win. Removing three Northland danger men in the thirties slowed their opponents momentum.  Fergus Lellman took four wickets for 38 runs, including the vital last two wickets, when their opponents were getting uncomfortable close to their target.

The Bay of Plenty Development side, has their sights well and truly fixed on lifting aloft the Basil McBurney Trophy in triumph in four weeks time. Standing in their way, is Waikato Valley at the Cambridge Square on Sunday 24th February, before the final ND Development encounter with Counties Manukau at the Bay Oval.
