Bay of Plenty Development Defeat Hamilton

Basil McBurney Trophy replay

The Bay of Plenty Development team repeated last year’s defeat of arch-rivals Hamilton at Galloway Park on Sunday (3 February 2019) - in a replay of the washed out Basil McBurney Trophy encounter, originally scheduled for December 2018.

Hamilton won the toss and elected to bat, which looked to be a wise decision, with openers Callum Hill (61) and Elliott Santner (51) putting on a opening stand of 120. Craig Baldry undid the opening pair, bowling both Hamilton openers, to slow the momentum. Jayden Purcell batting at five continued the Hamilton batting attack with 43 runs.

Bay of Plenty spinner Mikaere Leef made significant inroads, taking four wickets, with Marcel Collett chiming in with two bowling scalps as the home side were bowled out for 245.

The Bay of Plenty openers made a determined start to the big target, with Taylor Bettleheim the first to go from a smart slip catch, for 13. Fergus Lellman continued on to be rewarded with his sides top score of 66 runs and produced a solid partnership with skipper Blair McKenzie, who reached 29 before dismissal.

Bay number five Jacob Logan, carried on the required run chase of five an over, before being caught by Elliott Santner for 31. Hard hitting Daniel Price (49) further increased the run rate and took the game deep, before the two Bay Development debutants in Niven Dovey (19) and Dillon Preston (10) kept their nerve, to help the young Bay side get home with three wickets in hand and just a few balls to spare
