Fergusson Park Action

The resumption of the Baywide Twenty 20 competition at Fergusson Park on Saturday (12 January 2019), will turn the attention on the two unbeaten teams after the first four rounds in October 2018.

Defending titleholders Carrus Mount Maunganui and Eves Realty Greerton sit at the top of the standings with unbeaten records.

Greerton will be looking to preserve a unique unbeaten winning streak, which stretches back twelve months almost to the day, when they lost to Mount Maunganui in round five of the 2018 T20 competition. Since then, the Pemberton Park based side swept the 2018 Williams Cup and Baywide Cup competitions without the stain of defeat – and now have their sights firmly fixed on adding the Twenty 20 trophy to the other silverware in their clubrooms.

Entering round five at the Tauranga City suburban park, the Greerton first eleven will be heavily favoured to dispatch GM Painters Lake Taupo CC. Element IMF Cadets square of with New World Te Puke while Bayleys Central Indians will meet Bond & Co Tauranga Boys College.

The late afternoon round features Mount Maunganui entering the days play, after sitting out the round five bye, where they will meet longtime rivals Cadets in a match that could produce a big score from both sides.

Greerton could receive a solid challenge, from former two-time BOPCA T20 champions Central Indians, with Te Puke meeting the team from the Great Lake region.

The Baywide Twenty 20 title race will conclude next Saturday (19 January 2019), with the last round robin qualifying round, before the two top sides meet in the title decider.
