Weekend Results

Bay of Plenty Development Coach Russell Williams and his band of young warriors, returned home from Taupo on Sunday (13 January 2019), with the significant scalp of their Hawkes Bay counterparts in the team score book.

While the match was dubbed a "friendly" encounter, there is always bragging rights on the line when the two provinces meet in cricket combat.

Hawkes Bay won the toss, at the half-way venue of Owen Delaney Park in Taupo and asked Bay of Plenty to bat first. Early momentum lay with the bowlers, with Bay of Plenty having plenty of work to do when Bay of Plenty lost their sixth wicket with 123 runs on the board.

Tim Pringle and Jacob Logan, came together to put on a 77 run partnership before Logan was removed for 56. Pringle carried on to top score for his side with 62 runs, as Bay of Plenty were dismissed for 241 with two balls to spare in their innings.

Hawkes Bay made a solid start and at 128/2 looked to be on target to chase down the solid target. Iman Singh then took charge to grab three wickets to put the brakes on the Hawkes Bay batsmen.

Tim Pringle backed up his batting exploits, to do the damage with the ball, taking four wickets at a cost of just 18 runs. Jacob Logan was also in good form taking two wickets, as Hawkes Bay were bowled out for 189 in the 47th over.

Coach Williams can be well pleased with the performance of his mainly under 19 and 17 players, as they prepare for the second half of the Northern District Development season.
