A Century and Seven Wickets Headline THE HAVANA EATERY Baywide T20 Round Three

Posted: Sunday, 17 January 2021

A quick-fire century and a seven wicket bag, grabbed the headlines in the final preliminary round of The Havana Eatery Baywide T20 Championship, played in the early evening on Thursday 14th January 2021.

Flying Mullet Te Puke bowler Cameron Riley was in almost unplayable form against Papamoa, as they were removed for just 67, with the second ball of the 16th over. Riley dominated the Papamoa turn at bat grabbing seven wickets at a cost of a miserly 11 runs.

The visitors to the Alice Johnson Oval, had to work to take out the encounter losing four wickets on the way, with Te Puke stalwart Christian MacDonald top scoring with an unbeaten 23 runs.

Eves Realty Greerton's intention were clear from the opening ball against Element IMF, leaving nothing to chance, in qualifying for the post section play with the highest run rate. Henry Collier smashed a neat century (and a Greerton clubhouse window) from 55 balls. Collier received outstanding support from Taylor Bettelheim (48), with the pair putting together a 154 run opening stand, as the hosts posted 199/2.

Cadets top tallies from Fergus Lellman (34) and Scott Steward (32) stood out like electric beacons, as Cadets were bowled out for 132. Jared Tutty was in good form with the ball taking four wickets at a cost of 24 runs.

Bayleys Central Indians, cemented their reputation as the most improved Baywide team this season, after they accounted for Craigs Investment Partners Geyser to qualify for the post section competition.

Bayleys Central Indians skipper Stephen Nicholls, led from the front with a determined 87, as his team reached 175 for the loss of three wickets. The combined team pair of Lovely Sandhu (4/11) and Ryan Hall (3/11) did the majority of damage with the ball, to remove Geyser for 103.

The semi-finals on Sunday 31 January 2021, see top qualifier Eves Realty Greerton host Generation Homes Lake Taupo, with Section Two winner Bayleys Central Indians at home at Smallbone Park to Section One winner Bond & Co Mount Maunganui.
