Rain washes out all Baywide Cup matches

While all three Baywide Cup games kicked off on Saturday (21 November 2015) persistent drizzle resulted in none of the matches being completed, with the six teams sharing the points on offer.

The top of the table clash between New World Te Puke and Eves Realty Greerton at the Te Puke Domain, reached the halfway stage, before the inclement weather intervened. Te Puke batted first and posted 194/5, with long-time Te Puke player Tai Bridgman-Raison in grand form with his side’s top score of 88. Skipper Stephen Crossan chimed in with a handy 41, with Greerton leggie James Boyd taking three wickets.

Persistent light rain saw the match abandoned, without Greerton facing a ball. However Greerton happily returned home with the Baker Cup (Western Bay of Plenty Cricket Challenge Trophy) that they had put on the line in the match.

Likewise, down the road at the Gordon Spratt Reserve in Papamoa, the Carrus Mount Maunganui encounter with Bayleys Central saw just one innings completed. Mount Maunganui bowled first and removed the visitors for just 108. Young Mount bowler Luke Tatley reveled in the conditions, taking four wickets for 32 runs, with Jimmy Davis and Tony Goodin grabbing two wickets apiece.

Cooney Lees Morgan Tauranga Boys College and Bay of Plenty Indians also didn’t complete their game, which has left Te Puke, Greerton and Cadets to fight out the Baywide Cup title. Also at stake, is the Bay of Plenty 2016 ND Club Champs spot, which will be awarded to the winner of the Baywide Cup.
