Blackcaps

Black Cap batsmen Kane Williamson and Corey Anderson, who are both registered to Western Bay of Plenty cricket clubs, put together a big 124 run partnership to take the New Zealand team to a three zip victory, in the last game of the Twenty 20 International series.

Bangladesh won the coin toss in front of a near sold out crowd at the Bay Oval Mount Maunganui on Sunday (8 January 2017) and asked New Zealand to bat first. Kane Williamson opened the Black Cap batting attack with Jimmy Neesham, with the first wicket falling for 34, when Neesham was given LBW to the bowling of Rubel Hossain.

Corey Anderson joined the Black Cap skipper in the middle, after Tom Bruce was caught by Imrul Kayes, with New Zealand three down with 41 runs in the scorebook. Anderson, who once owned the quickest century in the ODI game, took little time to set his sights on the boundary ropes.

The Black Cap master blaster, took aim on the other side of the Bay Oval picket fence and smashed ten sixes, as the pair blasted a 124 run partnership. When the New Zealand captain was bowled by Rubel Hossain for 60, the home side were in a strong position, with 164 runs on the board.

Anderson continued his assault on the opposition bowling to finish with an unbeaten 94, off just 41 balls, as the Black Caps reached 194/4 in their time at the batting crease.

Bangladesh made a solid start and were up with the required run rate early in their innings. Opener Soumya Sarkar belted 42 runs from just 28 balls, with Shakib Al Hasan reaching 41 before being caught by Anderson of the bowling of another local in Trent Boult.

At 122/4, Bangladesh were still in the encounter, however tight Black Cap bowling restricted the visitors to 167/6 in their allotted overs – to give the New Zealand side a 27 run victory and a three nil whitewash of the T20 International series. Ish Sodhi finished with the best Black Cap bowling figures of 2/22, with Trent Boult also taking two wickets.
