Top Of The Table Fergus Hickey Rosebowl Clash At St Pauls College In Hamilton

A top of the table Fergus Hickey Rosebowl clash will take place at the St Paul’s College in Hamilton over the weekend (18/19 February 2017), when Bay of Plenty face off with Waikato Valley.

A change of format, where the Brian Dunning One-Day tournament has become a standalone tournament, sees the game between the two ND minor associations, the first time that the two sides have met in two-day cricket since February 2007.

Waikato Valley has been the surprise package of this seasons Fergus Hickey Rosebowl two-day competition. The Waikato regional side have taken first innings points from Counties Manukau, Poverty Bay and Northland. The Northland win made Northern Districts cricket watchers stand up and take notice. Waikato Valley set Northland a target of 244 and then bowled the side from the Far North out for 186 to claim a solid win.

Bay of Plenty sit just two points adrift of the Waikato country representatives with an outright win, a draw against Northland and first innings point’s loss to Hamilton. Bay of Plenty had Hamilton on the ropes at 189/7, but let their opponents on the hook, when the Hamilton number eleven blasted 150 runs to take his side to 409/9.

Bay of Plenty came back hard, but fell short when they were bowled out for 322 to concede first innings points to the Waikato City team.

The Fergus Hickey Rosebowl against Waikato Valley is the Bay of Plenty representative’s fourth game in consecutive weekends. Two Hawke Cup Direct Challenges have been interspersed with Fergus Hickey Rosebowl cricket.

The three Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s team match-ups in 2017, have created a record that should live well into the future. Two Bay of Plenty centuries in each game has shown that the Bay has batting firepower to burn.

Yorkshire Limited Overs Captain Alex Lees broke all sorts of Bay of Plenty Cricket all-time batting records, when he smashed the provinces highest score, in the Hawke Cup encounter with Counties Manukau 28th – 30th January 2017. Donovan Deeble playing in his first Hawke Cup match posted his maiden Bay of Plenty century with 108 runs to his name.

A week later against Hamilton, it was the turn of Bay of Plenty skipper Peter Drysdale to reach three figures with 118, with Sean Davey also posting a century before being dismissed for 113.

Sean Davey scored rare back to back centuries in the Hawke Cup defence against Hawkes Bay, with Alex Lees the first to post successive Hawke Cup centuries and also equaling Brett Hampton’s two Hawke Cup centuries. Both players reached the 141 run mark before dismissal.
