Colin Munro Blasts A Century To Power The Black Caps To Victory At The Bay Oval

Posted: Saturday, 7 January 2017

Black Cap batsmen Colin Munro blasted the New Zealand national side to victory at the Bay Oval at Mount Maunganui on Friday (6 January 2017) afternoon, with a swashbuckling century, as his side defeated Bangladesh by 47 runs in a Twenty 20 International.

In front of a full house, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and backed his bowlers, by asking New Zealand to bat. The decision paid immediate dividends, with Luke Ronchi removed from the first ball of the game. The visitors had further success and had the Black Caps in some trouble, at three down for 46 runs.

However Colin Munro took control of his team’s innings, to smash 101 runs off just 54 balls, to post just the fourth Black Cap T20 International century. His whirlwind innings contained seven fours and seven mighty blows over the picket fence.

Munro, in tandem with New Zealand number five Tom Bruce put together a 123 run partnership, that took the home side to 195 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted overs. Bruce finished his turn at bat with an unbeaten 59, that included five boundaries and big six over the fence. Rubel Hossain was the best of the Bangladesh bowling attack taking three wickets for 37 runs.

Bangladesh were also in early trouble losing their first wickets with just two runs on the board. While Sabbir Rahman (48) Soumyar Sakar (39) blazed away with the bat before being dismissed, the Black Cap bowlers tightened the screws to grab the last four wickets for just four runs, as Bangladesh were bowled out for 148.

Ish Sodhi was in grand touch with the ball taking three wickets for 16 runs, with skipper Kane Williamson and Ben Wheeler rewarded with two wickets apiece, as the New Zealand side got home to a 47 run victory.

The Black Caps victory saw them take a unassailable two nil lead in the series – with the two sides backing up at the Bay Oval on Sunday (8 January 2017) for the last encounter in the three match contest.
