Five Bay of Plenty cricket players have been selected to represent ND Maori this Sunday (12 February 2017). The ND Maori team are playing a Kaipaki Invitation XI at Kaipaki, before meeting New Zealand Croatia and Waikato University later in the season.

The New Zealand Croatia game is a regular fixture on the ND Maori annual schedule along with regular games, both home and away, with the Cook Islands National team.

The two Rotorua selections have plenty of experience of top level cricket. Ryan Neves, has been making a name for himself in the Central Indians Baywide premier team in recent weeks, while Shannon McSkimming has previously played for the Bay of Plenty Development side.

Eastern Bay of Plenty bowler Chris Tupaea has played Bay of Plenty Lakeland age-group cricket and took a six wicket bag for Whakatane United in club cricket, before the holiday season break.

Mikaere Leef and Ben Pomare, are two of the most promising young talent in the Western Bay of Plenty and have also earned selection in the ND team, with solid form this season.

Mikaere Leef was a member of the Bay of Plenty Coastland Senior Secondary that annexed the 2016 ND Senior Secondary title. Ben Pomare played for the ND Invitation side at the ND tournament and was chosen for the ND Under 17 team, that played in the North Island tournament in Wellington recently.

Last weekend was a red letter day for Bay of Plenty Women's Cricket. Briana Perry made her debut for the Northern Spirit against Central Districts, in the NZ Cricket Women's provincial competition. Briana joined fellow Bay of Plenty players Kate Anderson and Nensi Patel in the team. Briana celebrated her debut by taking a wicket with Kate and Nensi also taking a wicket apiece.
