Tim Clarke was presented with the Bay of Plenty Cricket 2015/16 Player of the Year, at the annual BOPCA Prizegiving held at the Mount Maunganui Golf Club on Thursday (10 April 2016) evening.
The Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s team wicket keeper, performed with both the bat and gloves throughout the recently completed season. Tim was the leading run-scorer during the Bay first eleven Fergus Hickey Rosebowl and Hawke Cup campaigns, with 298 runs and he took 13 catches behind the stumps. In January 2016, he posted his first representative century against Poverty Bay and also brought up one thousand runs in the Bay of Plenty uniform.
Black Cap captain Kane Williamson, was awarded the Bay of Plenty First Class Player of the Year trophy. The day before the BOPCA prizegiving, Kane became the first New Zealand player to be awarded the prestigious Wisden’s Leading Cricketer of the World. Kane’s 2015 highlights included scoring 2692 runs at an average of 65.65 and posting 1172 test runs which included five centuries.
Kate Anderson made a clean sweep of the Bay of Plenty Women’s team trophies, winning Player of the Year and the batting and bowling trophies. The Bay of Plenty captain led from the front and was her side’s top scorer and wicket taker with 156 runs and seven wickets respectively. The Mike Nitz most promising women’s player was given to Briana Perry.
A trio of players received trophies that recognized the achievements of three former high profile Bay of Plenty players. The Mike Wright batting prize was won by Tim Clarke, with the Tommy Clout winning the Derek Beard bowling trophy with 13 wickets during the Bay of Plenty Senior Men’s team season. Jonty Grigson was presented with the Brendan Bracewell most promising player award.
The Bay of Plenty Development batting honours went Captain Stephen Crossan with the bowling trophy shared between Chris Atkinson and Brody Gilroy. Special trophies for representative centuries and five wickets bags, recognised the batting achievements of Stephen Crossan, Bharat Popli, Tim Clarke and Ben Musgrave with Tommy Clout taking five wickets against Poverty Bay.
