Four Bay Players Selected For ND Under 18 Girls Team

Four Bay of Plenty players, have been selected to play for the ND Under 18 Girls team at the North Island Under 18 tournament, to be held in Wellington 16/20 January 2017.
Briana Perry, Nensi Patel, Holly Topp and Taneika Uerata, who are amongst the rising stars of the Womens game in the Bay of Plenty, will travel to Wellington to represent Northern Districts at the tournament.
In recent years Bay of Plenty Cricket has recognised the need to develop the girl’s game in the region. Four seasons ago Bay of Plenty Cricket adopted the NZ Cricket Go-Girl Program.

The Go-Girl program is the first step in Bay of Plenty Crickets female player pathway, with the strategic aim being to build a strong junior playing base, offer innovative competitions for intermediate and secondary-school aged players, while also ensuring that the best possible opportunities exist for those players who wish to progress to higher honours.

Bay of Plenty Cricket are starting to see the returns on their investment into girls and women’s cricket, with Tauranga Girls College representing Northern Districts, at the NZCT Secondary Girls Finals played in December 2016. Tauranga Intermediate girl’s side also enjoyed plenty of success in 2016, winning the ND NZ Post Shield tournament and representing Northern Districts at the National Finals.

Nensi Patel, Briana Perry and Holly Topp were in the Tauranga Girls College side at that participated in the National Finals, while Taneika Uerata was the Bay of Plenty captain at the 2016 ND Secondary Schoolgirls tournament played in Tauranga in November 2016.

All four of the Bay of Plenty players, selected for the ND side, have debuted for the Bay of Plenty Senior Womens team in the last couple of years.
